what is your favorite weekend getaway?

Vintage Wool Blanket Olympiad- AmyKristineVintage

What is it about getting away to the mountains or the coast that is so relaxing? This weekend my husband and my daughter and I were lucky enough to have a quick getaway to a nearby mountain cabin. There is a lake right by the property and it was almost instant relaxation when we arrived.

I guess it is the lack of busy people and infrastructure that make our minds so full all the time. Or it could be the lack of having the latest and the greatest in home items and being relinquished to the old and functionable… like an old wool blanket, a working VCR, green carpet, 1970s wood furniture and a cast iron skillet.

Autumn, Fall, Tree- 8daysOfTreasures

Perhaps, it is the simple fact that you are getting away from the familiar.. or maybe it is the way nature encompasses all of your senses? Whatever it is, I like it, wish I could bottle it and hand it out now and then when we all need it. What is your favorite weekend getaway place?

happy Easter everyone!

Easter Table- A holiday haven

Easter Sunday is one of my favorite days and the weather is supposed to be great where I am today so I am excited! I researched a couple of cute Easter table ideas for a little inspiration just in case you are like me and still thinking of ideas! In the above photo I love the bird cages, the wonderful innuendo of spring, actually I can hear birds chirping right now out in the dark.

Easter Table- the marion housebook

I love the blue in this table, it is fresh and simple and the different shades of it heighten its appeal.

Easter swing- my little jedi

Last but not least, how wonderful is this swing table? It would work wonderfully for a children’s table (although they may have a little too much fun with it) or a romantic lunch setting for two, tucked away in a garden.

I hope you have a wonderful day today and are ready for a fresh start this spring!

make your bathroom bigger this weekend

Dwell Vintage Birds- Maison Boutique

I really like shower curtains in a standard bathroom, shower/tub combo. The reason being is I think they look cleaner, more modern and more relaxed than glass sliding doors. This is one of the easiest weekend projects you can tackle yourself in a few hours and add instant update to your bathroom style.

PINK ruffles shower curtain- Butterfly Above

I am torn. I either really like layered, linen/cottage/country looking shower curtains or really bold modern prints. Whatever your taste, this project is a great one because it frees up interstitial space and breaks down the boundary imposed by a shower door making your bathroom seem and feel much larger. A bonus is many showers contain an overhead window or skylight so pulling back the curtain when not in use can really add some gorgeous glow into your space.

Curtains tiebacks Curtain tiebacks - Chic and Tonic

Today I am looking at my living room thinking about how dark my curtains are, they are navy blue and I am feeling like they need to be softened for Spring so I started looking into how I could make this happen. Maybe some cool curtain ties? The ones shown above are like curtain jewelry!! So interesting and unique.

Another way to soften up my dark curtains might be to add another curtain layer, perhaps a white chiffon. Layers of curtains can really give a nice ethereal glow.

Wooden Drapery Holdback- Burlap Country

For a rustic approach I love these holdbacks. I am thinking of incorporating some light linen fabrics and sewing some large flowers as holdbacks and securing them with some cool vintage buttons. Anyone have any other ideas on how to make dark curtains look lighter for spring and summer?

your dining room table is an art piece

Enjoy Dessert Plate in Green- RossLab

So, Monday, hello. I was able to be part of hosting a shower this weekend so I have been away from my laptop and my blog but I have been contemplating table decor as I helped arrange a few.

Linen Napkins- Organic- madderroot

I don’t think all great table decor should be limited to birthday parties, showers and special occasions. I find that if you rotate your dinner table decor in and out four or five times a year, I usually change it when I get bored with it, which is usually every few months, it can be a great change of scenery in your home and is pretty inexpensive.

Natural Linen Dinner Napkins- Bloomsong

Give yourself an emotional boost by changing the dialog your room is giving off by adding different colors and textures. I like to get bright place mats and mix them with bamboo toppers. A layered affect really changes your table dynamic from something utilitarian to your own art gallery.

Rustic Floral Arrangement- Sugar Pop Party

Take it a step further and mix in different flowers or centerpieces every few weeks and I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised when you get up to tackle a Monday morning and have something fresh to greet you. I try to cut roses from my garden every week during spring and summer, I know this sounds like a lot of effort for your dining room but it really can add some sweet comfort to a place that is often overlooked.

White Ruffled Linen Tablecloth- ruffledlinens

I will always love the simple country vibe. That is where I grew up and I will always love anything rustic, anything country and anything ranch style. It all gives me the clear mind and sun-soaked feel I need now and then.

Antique White Vinyl French Louis Armchair- metrosofa

There is just something about beautiful white linens and aged white-washed furniture that gives me peace. The great thing is these pieces make a striking statement, they go with any color scheme and can easily be integrated into your home.

a modern romance…

Dark Princess- Sparsh Glass

Your bedroom can be the scene for a modern romance all year-long if you incorporate some nice rich colors and memorable art. Personally, I love a purple, grey and black color scheme. It is unisex enough for a man and a woman, yet not too feminine. Purple adds just the romantic charm needed to soften the black and grey.

"Night Walk" - S.S.C. Photography and Digital Art

The San Francisco street scene photo above is just the type of art to set the stage for a comfy romantic bedroom. With art like this your space can transcend from a boring old room to a room with real personality that you don’t outgrow quickly. I also like to add a few personal photographs and some nice linens that match the color scheme.

Turkish Cotton Bath Towel- Turkish Towel

This Turkish towel is handwoven and a beautiful addition to a bedroom/bathroom master suite.

Dreaming Of Spring- Raine Style Home

I like a color scheme that matches but I like to pull items into a room that have different use of the colors, different shades and patterns. This cameo is cool and unexpected and incorporates purples and a striking black.
