happy Easter everyone!

Easter Table- A holiday haven

Easter Sunday is one of my favorite days and the weather is supposed to be great where I am today so I am excited! I researched a couple of cute Easter table ideas for a little inspiration just in case you are like me and still thinking of ideas! In the above photo I love the bird cages, the wonderful innuendo of spring, actually I can hear birds chirping right now out in the dark.

Easter Table- the marion housebook

I love the blue in this table, it is fresh and simple and the different shades of it heighten its appeal.

Easter swing- my little jedi

Last but not least, how wonderful is this swing table? It would work wonderfully for a children’s table (although they may have a little too much fun with it) or a romantic lunch setting for two, tucked away in a garden.

I hope you have a wonderful day today and are ready for a fresh start this spring!

simple shutters add serious charm

I picked up six vintage shutters and two really cool vintage windows at a market a few weeks ago and I am so excited about how many different ideas I have come up with just looking at them! Right now, I am very into garden and outdoor projects as I am trying to bring some sort of order to my large but very blank backyard.

So far, I have painted a few of the shutters and I am thinking I can use them side by side attached to a base to form a cool patio coffee table. Shutters would also make a cool set of shelves and the great thing is they can be used indoors and out easily.

Table Shabby Chic- A Marigold Life

This shelf is a great example of utilizing shutters indoors but they can also easily be leaned up on a shelf or painted a cool color to add casual cottage charm to a room.

Below is a simple way to use a shutter as an organizer. I have also thought to use two shutters in my garden area to frame a mirror. The historical charm of vintage shutters just really adds a hint of fun to a garden space or an indoor space that is undeniable.

how to repurpose furniture with broken glass

So what can you do if a cabinet you love has a door with a broken piece of glass? Or what happens if you find a piece of furniture you love but the glass is not up to par? I ran into this problem when moving a few years ago. I had an oak cabinet that had glass doors and was a cute storage piece but while moving, the glass in one of the doors shattered.

So my fix and a fun one at that was to break the glass on the other door (to match) so that all of the glass was safely removed. Next, I painted my piece of furniture and chose to add fabric to the leftover window areas.

Adding fabric is very easy. I chose a printed piece of fabric so that it would compliment the all-over color I had just added by repainting and simply staple-gunned it to the inside of the doors! It is so easy and really looks great. Just make sure you pull the fabric very tight and secure it well. Here I am showing you some images of what other etsyians have made. As you can see, some are using wire mesh in lieu of my fabric idea which is also a nice option.

Small Cabinet with 2 Glass Doors- Not Too Shabby

The possibilities for this project are endless because you could choose a piece of furniture that has really ornate glass-work, or you could even use this project for kitchen cabinets. Honestly, I think it has a lot of potential and is a welcomed alternative to glass.

Below is a photo of how my simple cabinet for storage turned out! One last thing, I will mention that if you want to use it for electronics, be sure to choose fabric transparent enough that your controllers work through it.

how a tray can simplify your life

Bubbles Holder Rustic Tray- Morgan Hill Designs

A tray is a great addition to almost any tabletop. It adds instant storage and dynamic to an otherwise flat tabletop. You can use a simple tray, like one of these, to not only serve food in the traditional sense but also to serve yourself some morning simplicity! Think keys, wallet, cell phone… all in one place.

Reclaimed Barn Wood Tray- DoubleEDesign

The cool thing is there are so many different types of trays. I really like these rustic inspired trays but how interesting is this hardened crochet tray shown below? Intricate and detailed, trays don’t have to be matchy matchy with your chosen tabletop. For instance, in my entry way, I now have a travel inspired tray that hold all of my last-minute leave the house goodies, some inspirational reads, and a few personal photos, however, it is all atop a vintage dresser that has a different color and design completely. The two contrast but compliment each other in an unexpected way.

Textured trays like these are great for breaking up larger furniture pieces and add instant interest.

how to artfully arrange a book shelf

Mid Century Wooden Book Case- Hindsvik

A common misconception is that book cases and shelves are intended only for books. Most of us like reading, or at least looking at pictures, but most people do not have a full on library in their home and often use book cases as the modern day storage showcase.

Reclaimed Wood- Blake Avenue Furniture

These reclaimed, vintage book cases really add a lot of character to a room with their charming detail. The key in arranging your cases or shelves is to mix some of your personality and favorite items for display alongside your books.

Reclaimed Home Library- Blake Avenue Furniture

You can arrange books by color scheme as well, so while out book shopping or antiquing, look for books that have colorful bindings (you can be surprised what colors are under those book jackets!). Don’t be afraid to add a personal photo or a plant or a colorful pitcher to your shelf either… something funky to break up the monotony usually works magic.

Vintage Books, Turquoise/ Browns- thisOtherthing

Lastly, when arranging books, place some in the traditional stance but also, don’t be afraid to mix it up with some lying on their sides and some with pages, not binding facing outward. All of these little moves will give your shelves and home a bit of whimsical character.

elevate your kitchen decor…

Small Hot Pink Cake Stand- A Fabulous Fete

Here is a simple design idea that occurred to me today when I was putting away some of my sister’s cool, handmade cake stands. I realized cake stands shouldn’t be reserved just for parties; you can easily use a cake stand to elevate a few pillar candles, a flower arrangement or some yummy snacks as a centerpiece on your dining table at different times of the year.

Dessert Pedestal- cakeandicecreams

Cake stands like these pictured are so cute they can give your home a fun and funky uplift and for me, they are a much-needed reminder of spring and all things bright white and fresh. The trick is to use them to present something other than the expected. Small jars of roses or three simple white pillar candles will look fabulous and it is such an affordable decor idea using pieces you may have around the house.

Jamison Cake Stand- Delightfully Lovely

Cake stands are so versatile they are almost like mini tables for your kitchen counter or dining table and just beg for a feature item. You can dress them up or down easily. Has anyone presented anything other than a cake on a cakes stand recently?

creating an entry way….

Butter Baby- Found Design Miami

My current home does not have a dedicated entryway space so I am ready to create one off to the direct right of my front door in our office. So to create an entry way out of the entry might seem a bit backwards but just because the architecture of my house doesn’t allow for a traditional entryway doesn’t mean that I can’t have one!

1950's Retro Vintage Painted Abstract Art Chair- Vintage Renewal

To create an entryway of sorts I am going to use a refurbished dresser as a statement piece and bonus, the drawers are a  one stop storage shop for keys, magazines, mail, shoes, umbrellas and bags. Similar to this awesome “butter” colored piece (shown above) by Found Design Miami, I have chosen a dresser that is low and fits well with the room that I am preparing as my delayed entry way. A chair near your door is always a nice idea for comfortably taking off your shoes when you come in the door.

Reclaimed Lumber Shelves- Indian Summer Gardens

These shelves, made of salvaged wood are truly a standout piece and a great entryway organizer. Bringing in industrial or other unconventional textures can be a great way to give your room or entryway dimension and display of photographs is an instant uplift as you walk in the door.
